Every January 1st there are millions of people out there who make New Years Resolutions. They range from losing weight, making more money, stop smoking, etc etc. But the reality is that most people don’t take the actions necessary to make any resolutions happen. Look in the mirror and think about how many times have you made resolutions that you had the best of intentions when making them, but they never happened. What compounds the problem is after a couple months into the year, people realize they still haven’t done anything and either give up or give the resolutions another go around. Sadly this becomes an endless cycle. So what does all of this mean?
If you want it you have to take action! It’s that plain and simple. This morning when I was at the gym, there were very few people working out. Most people were either nursing a hangover or putting off getting started until the next day. If this is the way that you are approaching your resolutions, they will simply not happen. The only day we can take action on in our lives is today. Tomorrow is not promised or guaranteed. You have to be willing to put forth 100% effort into achieving the results you desire!
Develop an Action Plan! Very few people take this step when working towards resolutions and goals in their lives. Most people stop by saying “I want to lose 15 pounds”. Hey that’s great but how are you going to do it? What will you do each and every day to make this happen? If you are skipping this important step, you must stop everything you are doing and figure this out. You don’t travel to a destination without knowing how to get there, so why are you doing it with the things in life that matter to you the most?
Get Someone To Hold You Accountable! If you have spent years trying to accomplish the same thing without any results, you need to have someone who will hold you accountable. This can either be a coach or an accountability partner. Regardless of who it is, you need someone who will cut through any bullshit you give and tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear when it comes to your goals.
Lastly. Don’t Give Up.. Ever! Goals that are worth achieving are often the hardest. There will be days that will be harder than others. You will have days that you feel like you have had a set back. But at the end of it all, the people who are winners, push through the hard times and cross the finish line.
