When it comes to marketing nothing truly is in black and white, especially knowing your audience. As business owners it is important that we take the time to understand who we must market to to achieve the success we are looking for. Recently I had a friend say to me that they used the Boost Post functionality on their Facebook Page and didn’t achieve any results. It didn’t take too long to figure out that there was no targeting involved, and her ad went to the masses of Facebook with zero results. How many times in your marketing efforts have you tried something and received zero results?
With Facebook in particular it is imperative that we take a few moments to identify who we are marketing to if we want maximum results. In terms of who we are marketing who, do you know if there is a big enough of an audience that is interested in what you have to offer. A great way of doing this is to leverage Facebook’s Graph Search function. With this function you can search to see what type of conversations are taking place about the type of business you are wanting to promote. Ask yourself a simple question, what is easier to market, a product that no one is interested in, or a product that solves a problem people are already talking about? The latter is the obvious choice, after all selling to a hungry market just makes sense right?
Another great feature of the graph search function is seeing what pages someone likes. If you wanted to know what types of things your target audience is interested in, this will tell you. There is an expression “Success Leaves Clues”, well so does Facebook! You have to look at Facebook as a gold mine of information about your prospects that is waiting to be mined by you.
Facebook Marketing Basics
Here is a break down of what you should do to learn more about your potential target market on Facebook utilizing the Graph Search Function.
1. Identify Leaders In The Market: Market leaders can be brands, businesses, or individuals. The key here is to find out what are they currently talking about, as well as how their fans are engaging with them. This will give you a pulse on what is happening right now.
2. Identify What Other Pages Fans Like: To grasp a better idea of the profile you are seeking to market to, find out what other pages they like. It will help to know what someone is interested in when creating ads that peak their interests.
3. Participate In The Conversation: Facebook is all about relationships. The more you engage with your audience the more frequent you will ultimately appear in their newsfeeds as you build your presence up on Facebook.
Just remember that your goal is to create high quality engagement which will ultimately lead to people subscribing to your list and purchasing products or services from you.
