Jennifer Kurtz is a small business branding expert helping entrepreneurs clarify their vision and transform it into a visual representation of their brand. When she’s not helping clients develop their brand she’s busy enjoying running, yoga, ice cream, and her English Bulldog Penelope.
Jennifer’s journey into the branding world began in engineering. She ended up studying it because of the influence received by high school guidance counselors. After studying biomedical engineering for her master’s she soon discovered that it wasn’t the right career field for her. While loving the process of figuring things out, she didn’t enjoy how things were applied.
While working for a non-profit part-time, she discovered she had a knack for marketing.
Jennifer’s philosophy when it comes to logos and graphics is that they must be something that people feel. A brand is your business’s personality.
A great example of how a brand can make someone feel is Coca Cola’s polar bear campaign during the holidays. The more a business can get their customers to feel, the greater the loyalty will be of their client base.
When it came to launching her business, Jennifer focused on utilizing Facebook groups. Small business owners and entrepreneurs in groups are consistently seeking help. The best way to reach out to them is to provide value and help them within the groups.
A key to her success has been following up with prospective clients. She follows the same process as anyone would utilize to build relationships with friends and family. The stronger the relationship, the amount of businesspeople will do with you increases.
As an entrepreneur, one of the challenges that people face is working alone the vast majority of the week. The way Jennifer solves this is to spend time each week working out of coffee shops and a Mexican Restaurant. Her goal is to do this at a minimum of once per week.
The One Thing Jennifer recommends entrepreneurs and business owners do is to invest in themselves. The more you invest in yourself the greater the return will be.
