Throughout our lives, we are encouraged to learn and expand our knowledge. However, one key thing is typically missing, and that is the implementation of what we have learned.
Think back to the days when you were in school studying subjects that might have been interesting but served no practical applications in your life. Now expand the thought further, how many other pieces of knowledge have you learned over the years that you have done nothing with. Our lives have been full of people telling us we must constantly expand our knowledge. However, there comes a point where we must go beyond expanding our knowledge, and implementing what we have learned.
Does this mean that you should not learn anything new? Of course not, but what it does mean is we must change the blueprint we are utilizing if we are wanting to create success in today’s marketplace. Think of how many times in our lives we have heard someone tell us that we needed to learn more before we can do something? Or how many times has someone said that they were told the only way you can do something is if you have a certification to perform a task?
The reality is there’s a time and place for certifications, but for the masses, especially as entrepreneurs, we must act with the knowledge we have. Why? It’s simple. Through our actions, we will learn what we must do to reach the next level. Depending on what area of business someone is in, there is only so much that can be learned through the study of a subject. After a certain point, the only way to expand knowledge is through action. This means learning through experience. This is where the true growth and magic happens. We ultimately transition from implied knowledge to practical knowledge, the type of knowledge that is only learned through taking action.
For example, you can study the ins and outs of how to drive a car until you are blue in the face. However, you will not master the skill until you actually begin driving behind the wheel. In each area of our lives that we want to create growth, we must learn to put down the books and take action. Does it mean it will be perfect in the beginning? No of course not! It does mean that we will begin making progress towards achieving our goals faster. It’s simply because until you transform the knowledge within you into actionable results, it is the untapped potential that does nothing to help you achieve your goals in life.
