As entrepreneurs, setting goals is one of the most important things that any one of us can do to grow our businesses. Yet, it is something that people don’t take the time to do. Goal setting must go beyond simply establishing what you want to accomplish in business, but they must encompass what you want to accomplish in life. [Read more…]
As this past weekend many people around the US celebrated Mother’s day, and the hard work they do to ensure that those they love can have the life they deserve. It got me thinking about why it is important we look at how we are living our lives, and ultimately how do we create the ideal lifestyle.
Like most people I did things like everyone else who graduated from college, except I went into the Air Force instead of the corporate world. It was to work for someone else, and do something and love it. Except there was just one problem, it felt like ramming a square peg into a round hole. Yes I can honestly say I did that as a kid, and in case you are wondering that peg never did come out of the hole!
You see, I’ve always had an entrepreneur mindset since I was a kid growing up in Chicago. Even when I was 7 or 8 years old I dreamed of running a business on my own terms not someone else’s. So you can see the dilemma, working for someone else when inside my passion for doing things my way was always there.
We are taught from an early age to do as the masses do, not what the few succeed at. There in itself lies the problem in the world. Do you remember as a kid how you used your imagination to create the world around you, but as an adult the imagination you once had is a shell of its former self.
Creating your ideal lifestyle revolves around rediscovering your imagination you had as a kid growing up in the world. This is essential because when we take ourselves back to the way we thought as children, we open up a world of possibility. If you were to ask any child what a limiting belief was, they would have no idea what you are talking about. You must remove any limiting beliefs that you may have so you can create the lifestyle you desire to have.
Here are three things that you can start doing today to begin creating your ideal lifestyle
Begin and end each day with gratitude: Too many people start the day off with negativity by watching the news, or negative thoughts about what the day has in store for them. They also end the day the same way. Instead of filling your mind with negativity, begin and end it with gratitude. It can be as simple as being grateful for having clean water to drink in the morning. In case you didn’t know there are millions of people around the world who don’t have clean water readily available to them. The more we are grateful for the things in our lives, the more we will attract what we desire.
Invest In Yourself: You hear of people saying you need to invest in mutual funds and stocks to plan for your future. Guess what, the best return is to invest in yourself as it is the only thing that you can guarantee will generate a result for you. There are many ways to do this, as you can listen to podcasts, read blog posts, check out books from the local library, attend seminars, etc. Decide what you want to accomplish and find the resources to invest in to help you achieve your goal.
Grow Your Network: Successful people spend more time around other successful people. Take a few minutes and look at who you spend the most time around. For you to reach your goals, its important to spend time around people who will encourage you to achieve your goals, and not hold you back. As we each have 24 hours in the day, we can only spend it with so many people. There will always be people who want to encourage you to achieve your goals, and those who will discourage you because they have an intense fear of failure. Identify 5 people who you feel can help you stay motivated in achieving your goals and make a point to spend more time around these people than those who will hold you back.
This is only the tip of the iceberg of what it takes to create your ideal lifestyle. What do you see your ideal lifestyle looking like? Share with everyone in the comments below.
Have you ever heard of the term Analysis Paralysis?
The Detail Oriented personality type can easily fall prey to this business killer! Do you know someone in your life that spends so much time looking at the finite details that opportunity passes them by on a daily basis?
The reality is that while details are critical to success in business, it is possible to over analyze a situation. So how do you interact with people that are super detail oriented. It’s simple, you give them the facts they must have to make an informed decision. Put yourself into their shoes. They will let you know what they need to understand. Be prepared to explain why certain bits of information are not relevant to making a decision, as they will typically see everything as being relevant!
If you personally have this personality type, then the key to success is learning to take a minimalist approach to information. Learn what the minimum amount of facts are required to make an informed decision. The more you do this, the quicker you will be able to make decisions and not miss out on opportunities.
Today, focus on looking around in your life for the people that are super detail oriented, and practice having conversations with them. Look at how you can get to the closing portion of the conversation by providing the facts that are needed. The more you practice closing with this personality type the greater the amount of success you will have.
What are your thoughts about working with people that get buried in the details?

Every January 1st there are millions of people out there who make New Years Resolutions. They range from losing weight, making more money, stop smoking, etc etc. But the reality is that most people don’t take the actions necessary to make any resolutions happen. Look in the mirror and think about how many times have you made resolutions that you had the best of intentions when making them, but they never happened. What compounds the problem is after a couple months into the year, people realize they still haven’t done anything and either give up or give the resolutions another go around. Sadly this becomes an endless cycle. So what does all of this mean?
If you want it you have to take action! It’s that plain and simple. This morning when I was at the gym, there were very few people working out. Most people were either nursing a hangover or putting off getting started until the next day. If this is the way that you are approaching your resolutions, they will simply not happen. The only day we can take action on in our lives is today. Tomorrow is not promised or guaranteed. You have to be willing to put forth 100% effort into achieving the results you desire!
Develop an Action Plan! Very few people take this step when working towards resolutions and goals in their lives. Most people stop by saying “I want to lose 15 pounds”. Hey that’s great but how are you going to do it? What will you do each and every day to make this happen? If you are skipping this important step, you must stop everything you are doing and figure this out. You don’t travel to a destination without knowing how to get there, so why are you doing it with the things in life that matter to you the most?
Get Someone To Hold You Accountable! If you have spent years trying to accomplish the same thing without any results, you need to have someone who will hold you accountable. This can either be a coach or an accountability partner. Regardless of who it is, you need someone who will cut through any bullshit you give and tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear when it comes to your goals.
Lastly. Don’t Give Up.. Ever! Goals that are worth achieving are often the hardest. There will be days that will be harder than others. You will have days that you feel like you have had a set back. But at the end of it all, the people who are winners, push through the hard times and cross the finish line.
Have you met anyone that completely disliked changing anything in their lives? We live in a world surrounded by people who do not like change. The reality is that if we do not change we will quickly find ourselves left behind by the rest of the world. [Read more…]
