Over the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed quite a few people that forget that Social Media is about being Social! What I have noticed is that there are large numbers of people who only talk about their business in hopes that it will generate business for them. Sure talking about your business is important in generating sales, but remember that people do business with friends and family first before total strangers. More people than ever are forgetting this simple principle and not taking the time to develop their connections into friendships.
How many people have you noticed lately are only posting information about their business? Take the opportunity to look at what your connections are talking about and you might be surprised at what some people are talking about. If you are like most people, you begin to tune out the people who only talk about their business and have no interest in building a relationship.
So Why is Social Important in Social Media?
Being social is a vital aspect of building relationships utilizing social media. Think about it for a moment, if you are out in your community you would gladly have a conversation with someone based on mutual interest because its an enjoyable conversation. But how many conversations would last very long if it was only a sales pitch for their product or service. Sadly most people fall into the later category. To grow your business you have to put it second to the relationship and realize that more can be accomplished when you focus on building relationships first with the people that you meet.
Because of the social world that we live in, you absolutely must focus on building relationships with social media. Let me give you an example of why its important to build relationships and do what it takes to maintain them. Take a look at the employment numbers that are present in today’s job market. How many people do you know who are able to find a new job within days or weeks of leaving their previous job, while there are others who are never able to find a job. Part of the reason is the relationships that someone has built. The more you focus on building relationships the greater the potential you will have to find the solution to any problem that comes your way, especially employment. How many people do you know are out of work but have not done anything to build their social network to find employment.
The simple answer is start talking to people on the social media networks. Take the time to learn how to use each of the networks to connect with people that you already know and go from there. The fastest way to achieve the results we are looking for is to connect with the people we already have a relationship with. When was the last time you connected with someone you already know over social media? Only you can determine the amount of success you have in life, take a leap of faith and start using social media today to be more social in your life!
