Everyone who becomes an entrepreneur does so for different reasons. However, it is important to know why we embark on this journey so we can better understand how to serve others in the world.
Regardless of the type of business an individual starts, it is vital to know why we are embarking on this incredible journey. Our why defines how we do business, but it will also define who we will ultimately attract.
But why start with it?
Think of it as a cornerstone in your business. It’s the rock that you will rely upon to hold you up when times are tough and to stand a top of when celebrating.
It is vitally important to know why you are starting a business in the first place, as it must resonate with who you are and your purpose. For example, there are people who start a business simply to make money and quickly find themselves empty on the inside. It has the same effect on your body as if you were eating junk food on a daily basis. While in the short term it solves a problem, long term it takes a toll on your health and ultimately does more harm than good.
A business must be fulfilling to you inside and out. Fulfillment can simply be defined as “being happy” in your business. You should feel a level of excitement every day when you are working on your business. You should be able to look at what you have done in your business by the end of the day and feel accomplished.
Another way to look at it is very straight forward. Imagine that you have been in business for 10 years, and ask yourself a simple question. Are you just as excited at the 10-year mark as you were day one? If the answer is anything but an absolute yes, then you must re-evaluate your business and examine how it resonates with your why in life.
Your why will also determine the culture within your business. Think of the businesses that welcome you with open arms when you enter their doors. Compare this to others where it feels like you are bothering them if you ask for help. Your culture will ultimately determine how successful you will be in business. Your why will determine who you will hire to be part of your team, as well as the clientele you will attract who want to do business with you.
Take a moment to evaluate if your business in its current form is in alignment with your why in life. If it is not, then simply ask yourself what can you do to create a shift so it aligns with you why resulting in a fulfilled lifestyle for you and your family.
